Democratic Governance RIPP Stakeholder Consultation As a follow up to the previous Regional Dialogues conducted in 2009. Communications Workshop 2009

A Communications workshop on "Writing stories, avoiding UNglish" was held in Bangkok for 35 UNDP national communications officers from more than 20 countries.The workshop, held from 29 June - 1 July in 2009, combined practical writing exercises with discussions on Communicating as One, effective use of Goodwill Ambassadors, and dealing with crises and the media. A full day was devoted to video production using inexpensive video Flip cams. The aim of the workshop was to show communications colleagues how to ramp up their field stories and improve their writing techniques when communicating UNDP results to a range of audiences and partners.

Climate Risk Management Workshop

UNDP’s Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) have framed a strategic approach to climate Risk Management (CRM). This partnership seeks to identify anticipatory strategies for managing both short term climate variability and longer term climate change impacts across regions. In view of the objectives of this strategic partnership, the Regional Workshop will commence the development and implementation of a joint portfolio of CRM projects for Asia. The workshop will bring together staff from UNDP/GEF, BCPR, IRI, eight UNDP Country Office environment and disaster risk management units, and relevant government line agencies along with technical specialists from the region. The workshop hopes to achieve an Asia-wide partnership for adopting a CRM approach which will be instructive to other regions adopting an integrated adaptation approach in the near future.

Workshop on Mainstreaming Environment for Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Growth in Asia and Pacific

26-28 March 2007

Organized by UNDP, UNEP, UNESCAP, and ADB, the 3-day workshop will bring key experts from Planning, Finance, and Environment Ministries of national governments, civil society organizations, business and UN Agencies and donor communities. The workshop aims to:

  • Learn from country experiences the different planning traditions in mainstreaming environment into national development processes, budgets and economic decision making, sectoral plans and subnational processes;
  • Review approaches, methodologies and tools among practitioners, in particular on financing and investing in the environment;
  • Develop the set of generic guidance and approaches for mainstreaming environment in the development process at national and sectoral levels; and
  • Agree on future directions by submitting concrete recommendations and action plans for 2007-2008 for mainstreaming poverty reduction and sustainable growth in selected countries.

Regional Leadership Course for Young Leaders in Governance

Strengthen leadership capacities of Asia’s young leaders who are engaged in and have experience in promoting effective governance in their respective countries and/or the Asian region. Participants will be trained on various leadership skills, including systems thinking for transformational change; ethical decision-making; conflict resolution and negotiation; cross-cultural communications for leadership; and team building and networking.
