Achieving the MDGs at the Local Level

In order for local governments to deliver the needed services efficiently and effectively, and enable all citizens to benefit from their governance institutions, they must have sufficient administrative, political and fiscal powers.

UNDP sees the prevailing lack of capacity to deliver basic public infrastructure and services as one of the biggest bottlenecks in accelerating progress towards attaining the MDGs, and places it at the centre of the following key areas of support:
