Energy Access for Poverty ReductionRegional Climate Change, Energy and Ecosystems ProjectCountry GAP Reports on Energy AccessThe UNDP Regional Climate Change, Energy and Ecosystems Project (RCCEEP), seeks broad-based interventions to improve access to energy services, promote efficient use trough Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) transformation and increase access to financing for sustainable energy generation. To forward this cause REP-PoR published "Overcoming Vulnerability to Rising Oil Prices: Options for Asia and the Pacific", which examined the effects of soaring oil prices on the daily lives of Asia’s poor. The foucus beening the Asia and Pacific region as a whole and not individual countires. Completmenting this regional study REP-PoR recently published the findings based on the rapid assessment of access to energy services at national levels in the Asia-Pacific region launced in mid-2005 in a 10 book series title Energy and Poverty: Challenges and the Way Forward. Figure 1 presents the schematic diagram of the gap assessment proces. Overall, this initiative aims to highlight issues that hinder access to energy services by lower income groups, close to or below the poverty line. The figure below presents the schematic diagram of the gap assessment proces.
This series of country specific reports highlights the challenges that each country needs to overcome in there fight against poverty. It offers possible solutions and suggestion based on improving energy access. The map below can be used to navigate through the different country specific pages, clicking on the highlighted countries will lead you to that countries gap report (Energy and Poverty, Challenges and the Way Forward) page.
